The Carthage College men's track and field team (35-16 outdoor record) finished third at the Saturday, April 13 Benedictine University (Ill.) ?Eagle Invitational? at the Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex in Lisle, Ill.?

Olivet Nazarene University won the 21-team event with 105.50 points, a half-point ahead of second-place Loyola University (Ill.) at 105.? Carthage was third at 96.33, followed by the University of Chicago fourth at 60.83, Aurora University fifth at 41, Benedictine (Ill.) sixth at 37, the College of DuPage seventh at 33.50, Harper College eighth at 29.83, Millikin University ninth at 29.50, Illinois Wesleyan University 10th at 29, Elmhurst College 11th at 28, Concordia University (Chicago), Clarke University and Valparaiso University tied for 12th place at 26 points each, St. Xavier University 15th at 22, Trinity Christian College and Roosevelt University tied for 16th place at 17 points each, Concordia University (Wis.) and Judson University (Ill.) tied for 18th place with six points each, Beloit College 20th five and one-half points and Oakton Community College 21st with one point.

Carthage's Mark Balmes (Fr., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey) won the discus (156-10), while placing fifth in the shot put (46-6 ?) and sixth in the hammer throw (151-0).? Branden Miller (So., Winfield, Ill./Wheaton-North) the javelin (169-2) and took fifth place in the hammer throw (153-6), and Trevor James (Jr., Maywood, Ill./Chicago-Hope Academy) won the high jump (6-9 ?).? Eric Schmidt (Sr., Kewaunee, Wis.) finished third in the hammer throw (170-3).? Derrik Guyette (So., Hortonville, Wis.) was fourth in both the hammer throw (159-4) and the shot put (48-6 ?).?

The Red Men also picked up a win from their 4x100-meter relay team of Robert Liss (Fr., Hinsdale, Ill./Central), Mike Brown (So., St. Charles, Ill./East), Aryan Avant (Jr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) and Kendric Cornelius (Fr., Palatine, Ill.) with a time of 42.77.?

Carthage travels to Rock Island, Ill., on Friday-Saturday, April 19-20 for the Augustana College (Ill.) ?Meet of Champions? at Ericson Field (3 p.m./10 a.m.).

Paul Smith

Paul Smith, a member of Carthage?s inaugural men?s soccer team in 1981, was inducted into the Wisconsin Soccer Association Hall of Fame in 2010.?A native of Racine, Wis., Smith?set a Carthage game record that season by collecting four assists against Milton College on Oct. 21.?Smith is currently the outdoors editor of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Little All-Americans

The Associated Press has named 17 Carthage football players "Little All-Americans" since 1938, including punter Tyler Funk, a 2010 honoree.

Augie Schmidt IV Reaches 700 Wins

With a victory over Ohio Wesleyan University on March 6, 2010, Carthage College baseball coach Augie Schmidt IV will became only the 17th coach in NCAA Division III history to reach the 700-victory plateau.

Warren Township High School in Gurnee, Ill., defeated Naperville Central High School, 2-1 in overtime, on Nov. 3, 2012 to win that school?s first-ever Illinois High School Association Class 3A state championship.? Warren Township head coach Jason Ahonen lettered on the 1999 Carthage team.? Blue Devils assistant coach Michael Armour lettered four times for the Red Men between 2005 and 2008, and assistant coach Aaron Ahonen is the brother of another former Carthage player, Eric Ahonen.

Former Carthage part-time assistant football coach Tony Buyniski, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, is currently one of two staff videographers for the NFL Cincinnati Bengals.? Buyniski assisted with the Red Men in 2005 and 2006.

Carthage men's volleyball coach L.J. Marx won his 100th career match on April 9, 2010 with a 3-0 win over Fontbonne University in the semfinals of the M-III Volleyball Conference Tournament in Kenosha, Wis.

Doubling Up

With a school-record 12 doubles in the May 5, 2011 Lakeland?game, the Carthage baseball team tied an NCAA III game record first set by Bridgewater State University versus the Massachusetts Maritime Academy on March 29, 1997.

Coach Brady Lindsley

Carthage women's tennis coach Brady Lindsley won his 200th career match in the fall of 2009.? Lindsley, with a 219-93 record heading into the fall 2011 portion of the season, has been named CCIW "Women's Tennis Coach of the Year" three times.

Carthage's First Hole-in-One

Carthage men's golfer Don Huff scored the Red Men's first-ever hole-in-one on Oct. 10, 1981 against Lawrence University at Rainbow Springs in Mukwonago, Wis. Huff aced the third hole with a seven-iron.

Rob Wolter, who served as a part-time assistant men's and women's volleyball coach at Carthage in both 2009-10 and 2010-11, was named the head men's volleyball coach at Vassar College prior to the 2011-12 season.

First NFL Playoff Game

John ?Popeye? Wager, ?31,?was a lineman?for the 1932 NFL Portsmouth (Ohio) Spartans, who played the Chicago Bears in the first-ever NFL post-season game.? The Spartans finished the regular season in a first-place tie with the Bears, whose owner, George Halas, had a playoff game scheduled and moved from Wrigley Field to an indoor contest at the Chicago Stadium.

Amanda Croix Named Army Assistant Coach

Former Carthage swimmer Amanda Croix was named?an assistant swimming and diving coach at United State Military Academy in West Point, N.Y., in July 2011.? She was also invited to compete in the July 2012 Olympic swimming trials in the 50-meter freestyle.

Carthage's 24th Varsity Sports Began in 2009-10

Carthage launched its 24th varsity sport in 2009-10, as the women's lacrosse team began varsity play.

Bosko Djurickovic

Carthage men's basketball coach Bosko Djurickovic?s CCIW winning percentage entering the 2011-12 season (.669, 245-121) is the sixth-best in the 65-year history of the league, and his 245 wins placed him first among active conference coaches.

Indian Trail High School and Academy

Indian Trail High School and Academy in Kenosha, Wis., began its first year of varsity athletics in 2012-13, and seven of its 17 head coaches are Carthage graduates.? Two others are former part-time Carthage coaches, and Indian Trails athletic director is former Red Men football player Eric Corbett.

Brooke Mix Scores Her Second Career Hole-in-0ne

Carthage College women's golfer Brooke Mix (Sr., Westfield, Ind.) scored a hole-in-one on Sept. 23, 2011?on the first day of the Wisconsin-Whitewater "Fall Fling."? Mix' ace came on the 130-yard 15th hole at the Riverside Golf Course in Janesville, Wis.?It was the second collegiate hole-in-one for Mix, with the other coming on Sept. 4, 2009 on the 11th hole of the Foss Park Golf Course at the Robert Morris ?Fall Classic.?

Carthage men's tennis coach Brady Lindsley won his 250th match on April 23, 2011?with a 9-0 win at Principia College.

Kent Dernbach

Former Carthage basketball player Kent Dernbach (2002-03) was named an assistant men's basketball coach at Wisconsin-Stevens Point in October 2011.? Dernbach had been?the Northern Illinois University Director of Men?s Basketball Operations.?He held the same post at George Mason University from 2007 to 2009.

Former Carthage men's volleyball player Ryan Baumgartner, who lettered on the 2005-07 Red Men teams and was named American Volleyball Coaches Association second-team All-America in both 2006 and 2007, was named head women's volleyball coach at Dominican University (Ill.) prior to the 2011 season,

Former University of Michigan football tailback Rob Lytle, who died on Nov. 20, 2010, played for the Denver Broncos Super Bowl XII team that lost to the Dallas Cowboys in 1978.?Denver?s head coach that year was Robert ?Red? Miller, who assisted Carthage head coach Art Keller from 1955 to 1957.

Coach Leanne Ulmer

Head women's volleyball coach Leanne Ulmer enters the 2011 season with a?.782 winning percentage over?10 seasons, which was raned ninth among active NCAA Division III coaches thru 2009.? Ulmer has won six CCIW titles in nine years at Carthage, including a?shared title?in 2004 and outright titles in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Carthage became only the second men?s lacrosse team in NCAA history to play two games in one day when the Red Men played both Birmingham-Southern College and Rhodes College on Feb. 23, 2013 in Memphis, Tenn. The only other previous time was by Washington College on April 3, 1993.?

Emily Goetz

Former Carthage graduate assistant women's lacrosse coach Emily Goetz is now the head women's lacrosse coach at Loras College.

Leanne Ulmer's 300th win

Carthage women's volleyball coach Leanne Ulmer won her 300th career match with a 3-0 decision over?Southwestern (Texas) on Sept. 16, 2011.
