Mysterious 'October Suprise' website a hoax?

The now-deleted community post advertising "October Surprise" website on Buzzfeed on Thursday afternoon.

A mysterious website, Octsurprise.com, which touts a secret document that the site warns would hurt one of the candidate's chance of winning the presidential election, is likely a prank.

Update: There now seem to be problems loading the site.

"One of your presidential candidates isn't being honest with you," it reads, accompanied by a clock counting down the minutes. "Stay tuned to find out which one it is."

Speculation about the site has spread throughout Twitter via its handle @Octsurprise and the hashtag #OctSuprise. The page then appeared in a community post on Buzzfeed early on Thursday and was taken down later in the day by editor-in-chief Ben Smith, after he was contacted by Yahoo News.

Similar posts appeared on Daily Kos and WhatIsOccupyWallStreetAbout.com before the user accounts were deactivated.

Octsurprise.com promises to blow up the presidential race on Oct. 22 at 5:30 p.m. But observers are already skeptical about the blurry, scanned documents, and some investigating by Politicker point to a viral marketing campaign connected to Animal Planet's upcoming, and satirical, pet elections.

Taking a lead from users at the tech forum Fark.com?who traced the IP addresses of the accounts promoting the page?Politicker tracked down two Web developers who are likely behind the October Surprise site, Jeff Hopwood and Anthony Maro.

The pair have a history of large-scale Internet hoaxes: Their names are connected to a huge prank, for instance, from 2007, when a site promised to? release advanced copies of Radiohead's "In Rainbows," instead unleashing on 20,000 subscribers one of the oldest and most infuriating Internet memes: the RickRoll.

As the Fark.com users followed the breadcrumbs that might lead to October Surprise, pages connecting Hopwood and Maro to the 2007 incident disappeared from the Internet. But before long, their LinkedIn accounts were under scrutiny by Politicker, which found that the duo are working as developers at Discovery Communications, the distributor of Discovery Channel and Animal Planet.

Hopwood and Maro claim they have no idea who's behind the site and that they're only developers. They do claim to know the number of page visits, however, bragging to Politicker that it reached 100,000 in only a few days.

At the same time, the Twitter account of @OctSuprise retweets users who express interest or disdain in the candidates?but has ignored and blocked skeptics and those presenting the links between the site and Hopwood and Maro's past prank.

If the site remains up, only time will tell if it is a hoax or a genuine leak. Come Oct. 22, screens around the country will either fill up with scandalizing documents concerning one of the candidates, an Animal Planet promo or?most upsetting?the sights and sounds of Rick Astley.

(AP) ? A Bangladeshi man who came to the United States to wage jihad was arrested in an elaborate FBI sting on Wednesday after attempting to blow up a fake car bomb outside the Federal Reserve building in Manhattan, authorities said.

Before trying to carry out the alleged terrorism plot, Quazi Mohammad Rezwanul Ahsan Nafis went to a warehouse to help assemble a 1,000-pound bomb using inert material, according to a criminal complaint. He also asked an undercover agent to videotape him saying, "We will not stop until we attain victory or martyrdom," the complaint said.

Agents grabbed the 21-year-old Nafis ? armed with a cellphone he believed was rigged as a detonator ? after he made several attempts to blow up the bomb inside a vehicle parked next to the Federal Reserve, the complaint said.

Authorities emphasized that the plot never posed an actual risk. However, they claimed the case demonstrated the value of using sting operations to neutralize young extremists eager to harm Americans.

"Attempting to destroy a landmark building and kill or maim untold numbers of innocent bystanders is about as serious as the imagination can conjure," said Mary Galligan, acting head of the FBI's New York office. "The defendant faces appropriately severe consequences."

Nafis appeared in federal court in Brooklyn to face charges of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and attempting to provide material support to al-Qaida. Wearing a brown T-shirt and black jeans, he was ordered held without bail and did not enter a plea. His defense attorney had no comment outside court.

The defendant had sought assurances from an undercover agent posing as an al-Qaida contact that the terrorist group would support the operation.

"The thing that I want to do ask you about is that, the thing I'm doing, it's under al-Qaida?" he was recorded saying during a meeting in bugged hotel room in Queens, according to the complaint.

In a September meeting in the same hotel room, Nafis "confirmed he was ready to kill himself during the course of the attack, but indicated he wanted to return to Bangladesh to see his family one last time to set his affairs in order," the complaint said.

But there was no allegation that Nafis actually received training or direction from the terrorist group.

Prosecutors say Nafis traveled to the U.S. on a student visa in January to carry out an attack. In July, he contacted a confidential informant, telling him he wanted to form a terror cell, the criminal complaint said. Nafis was living in Queens.

In further conversations, authorities said Nafis proposed several spots for his attack, including the New York Stock Exchange ? and that in a written letter taking responsibility for the Federal Reserve job he was about to carry out, he said he wanted to "destroy America." Other communications took place through Facebook, the complaint said.

A Twitter account with the suspect's name and photo had six followers and two messages and was linked to a Facebook page that had been taken down.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said the case is one more reminder that New York remains a target:

"New York continues to be very much in the mind frame of terrorism. This individual came here with the express purpose of committing a terrorist attack, he was motivated by al-Qaida. We see this threat as being with us for a long time to come."

Kelly said security is always a precaution and there are about a thousand officers in the counterterrorism division. He didn't specify if any additional measures were being taken.

The bank, located at 33 Liberty St., is one of 12 branches around the country that, along with the Board of Governors in Washington, make up the Federal Reserve System that serves as the central bank of the United States. It sets interest rates.

The Federal Reserve is one of the most fortified buildings in the city, smack in the middle of a massive security effort headed by the New York Police Department where a network of thousands of private and police cameras watch for suspicious activity.

The department uses sophisticated programs that can search for suspicious activity, like an object in one place for a long time, at the building modeled after London's "ring of steel." The analytic software also is designed to take video and catalog it according to movements, shapes and colors, so officers can set parameters to search the system for, say, a suspicious van.

The Fed is also home to the world's largest accumulation of gold, according to the bank's website. Dozens of governments and central banks store a portion of their gold reserves in high-security vaults deep beneath the building. In recent years, it held 216 million troy ounces of gold, or more than a fifth of all global monetary gold reserves, making it a bigger bullion depository than Fort Knox.

The federal case was the latest where a terrorism plot against the city turned out to be a sting operation.

Four men were convicted in 2009 in a plot to bomb synagogues and shoot down military planes with missiles - a case that began after an FBI informant was assigned to infiltrate a mosque in Newburgh, about 70 miles north of New York City. The federal judge hearing the case said she was not proud of the government's role in nurturing the plot.

In 2004, a Pakistani immigrant was arrested and convicted for a scheme to blow up the subway station at Herald Square in Midtown. His lawyers argued that their client had been set up by a police informant who showed him pictures of Iraq abuse to get him involved in an attack against civilians.

Zoologger: 'Wolverine frog' fights with retractable spikes

Zoologger is our weekly column highlighting extraordinary animals ? and occasionally other organisms ? from around the world

Species: Babina subaspera
Habitat: Fighting like cats, if cats had a propensity to hug each other, on the Amami Islands of south Japan

Catfights happen all the time. Cats love them, of course: as the UK government discovered this week, our feline friends like nothing better than to unsheathe their claws and swipe at each other.

But frogs, surely, don't get into catfights. They're too soft and squishy, and don't have the requisite claws. Besides, if they get into a disagreement, they can resolve it by means of adorable wrestling matches.

This is true of most frogs, but there's an exception to every rule. Male Otton frogs get into vicious catfights that leave them scarred and bleeding, thanks to the retractable claws stashed in their "thumbs" (see one here).

All pseudothumbs

Otton frogs live in the subtropical rainforests of two Japanese islands. They're an endangered species, partly because predatory mongooses have been introduced to their habitat. Although they retain a fair amount of genetic diversity, they have become divided into two populations that no longer interbreed.

Even for frogs, they are weirdly primitive-looking. The earliest frogs, which lived over 300 million years ago, had five toes on their limbs. Most frogs have since lost the "thumbs" on their forelimbs, leaving them with four toes, but the Otton frog has re-evolved pseudothumbs on its front feet. A few other animals have pseudothumbs, most famously pandas.

Wondering what the frogs used their pseudothumbs for, Noriko Iwai of the University of Tokyo, Japan, captured some of the amphibians in the wild. Both sexes had pseudothumbs, but males had longer and thicker ones than females.

Each pseudothumb concealed a bony spine, contained in a sheath. The spine could be pushed out the front of the pseudothumb, puncturing the skin. Males were more likely to do this than females when being captured. Iwai found males difficult to handle, as they would struggle and jab their spines into her hands.

Claws out

Using video cameras to watch the frogs in the wild, Iwai found no sign of them using their pseudothumbs to hunt prey, or to fend off predators. Females didn't appear to use them at all.

But males used them to fight each other, and to help them mate. Competing for nesting sites, males leapt on each other and wrestled face-to-face. As they did so they jammed their spines into each other flank's, ripping through the flesh. One such fight continued, on and off, for 15 minutes.

When it was time to mate, males mounted females from behind and grabbed them at the base of their arms. They used the spines to keep a tight grip, wounding the females in the process.

Iwai thinks the first Otton frogs engaged in intense male-to-male combat, driving males to get bigger. That made it difficult to mate with females, which were still small, so the males evolved pseudothumbs and spines to help them stay in place. Later, they began using them to fight each other.

The Otton frog joins a select group of animals that produce weapons by self-harmingMovie Camera. Some newts and salamanders push their ribs out through their skin to serve as spikes, while the hairy frog of Cameroon breaks the bones of its hands to make claws. One other frog, Rosenberg's treefrog (Hypsiboas rosenbergi), also has pseudothumbs with spines ? but if anything it is more savage than Otton frogs, as the fights are often fatal.

How Singer Sarah Brightman Could Change the Face of Private Space Travel

When singer Sarah Brightman launches to space in 2015 or so, she will likely be the most famous non-astronaut to reach orbit.

Brightman has signed a deal to fly in space?aboard a Russian Soyuz rocket in the coming years. The classical soprano is thought to be paying upwards of $35 million for a 10-day trip to the International Space Station.

She won't be the first millionaire or billionaire to make such a journey, but she will likely be the most well-known. Brightman first gained fame starring in the original Broadway cast of "Phantom of the Opera" in 1986, and has since seen success as a global recording artist, selling 30 million classical albums and receiving more than 180 gold and platinum awards in over 40 countries.

This fame could bring positive attention to the space realm and the burgeoning field of private spaceflight, said former astronaut Michael Lopez-Alegria, current president of the Commercial Spaceflight Federation. [Video: Sarah Brightman Undergoes Spaceflight Tests]

"Somebody like Sarah Brightman, who already has a big following that doesn't intersect much with NASA's ? I think that nexus could be very valuable," Lopez-Alegria told SPACE.com.

As an astronaut, Lopez-Alegria flew on the Russian Soyuz TMA-9 flight on Sept. 18, 2006, which also carried Iranian-American entrepreneur Anousheh Ansari, the fourth private citizen to fly to space. Like Brightman, Ansari booked her flight through Virginia-based space tourism firm Space Adventures.

"I flew with Anousheh up on her Soyuz flight," Lopez-Alegria said. "I was a little bit of a skeptic. I wasn't convinced it was good thing."

The former astronaut recalled being quickly won over to the idea of private spaceflight, though, by observing Ansari's dedication to training and her deep enthusiasm for space ? an enthusiasm she was able to share with many people on the ground.

"She was able to reach out to so many people who don't care or don't follow what's going on at NASA," Lopez-Alegria said. "That was to me very telling and obviously very valuable, because at the end of the day, NASA relies on public support."

In addition to her celebrity, Brightman brings other valuable qualities to the table as an artist-turned-space tourist, such as her creativity and musical skills. Through these abilities, she can potentially communicate the experience of spaceflight in a different way than the scientists and engineers who usually fly to space are able to. As Jodie Foster's character Ellie Arroway remarks in the movie "Contact," "they should have sent a poet."

"I've often thought it would be good to send a poet or a writer or a journalist up there who would tell the story better," Lopez-Alegria said.

Brightman, who is also a UNESCO Artist For Peace Ambassador, plans to organize a series of concerts after she returns to Earth to share her space experience. And her new album, "Dreamchaser," set to be released in January 2013, was heavily influenced by her quest to pursue space, she said.

"I hope that I can encourage others to take inspiration from my journey," Brightman said in a press conference announcing her flight last week. "I am more excited about this than anything I have done in my life to date."

Friends memorialize ex-Sen. Arlen Specter in Pa.

NARBERTH, Pa. (AP) ? Former U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter was an "irreplaceable" force who approached politics ? and life ? with grit and determination, a who's who of politicians and others said Tuesday at the longtime senator's funeral.

"I've never seen as much undaunted courage as Arlen had ? both physically and politically. He believed he could change the world, if he just worked hard enough at it," Vice President Joe Biden told mourners, including three Pennsylvania governors, federal judges and hundreds of friends, at Har Zion Temple in Narberth, a Philadelphia suburb.

Specter died at his Philadelphia home on Sunday at 82 after battling non-Hodgkin lymphoma. He had spent 30 years in the Senate before losing his seat in 2010, after crossing party lines to vote for President Barack Obama's stimulus package and later switching parties.

"In a dark time for our nation, he was willing to lose his seat to cast a decisive vote," said Specter's son Shanin, whose remarks capped about 90 minutes of tributes.

U.S. District Judge Jan DuBois recalled how his friend approached everything in life "with intensity, determination and grit," managing to teach one last law class on Oct. 4 at the University of Pennsylvania, even as he was losing his third fight with cancer.

Specter's influence on law, medicine, politics, Judaism and other walks of life was clear from the diverse, bipartisan and powerful crowd of mourners, including Democratic U.S. Sen. Bob Casey, Republican Gov. Tom Corbett and rows dotted with current and former members of Congress, along with federal judges whose careers Specter backed.

Specter, a political moderate, switched parties twice but mostly served as a Republican. Speakers said he honed his respect for opposing viewpoints as a child, growing up in the only Jewish family in Russell, Kan.

"He really set the standard for working across party lines and we're going to miss that," said Casey, who said Specter had helped smooth his transition when he arrived in Washington.

Anthony J. Scirica, a judge on the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, called Specter "irreplaceable."

"He touched so many lives," Scirica said. "He had some tough times, but he always thought that he was working for the public good."

Two of Specter's granddaughters also spoke, including Silvi Specter, a freshman at Penn who drew applause when she said she hopes to follow her grandfather into law and the U.S. Senate ? before becoming president.

Shanin Specter, a prominent Philadelphia lawyer, compared his father to the fictional character Forrest Gump, given Specter's proximity to so many seminal events in modern American history.

Specter served as counsel to the Warren Commission investigating President John F Kennedy's death. He won his Senate seat in the Reagan landslide of 1980 and, as one of the Senate's sharpest legal minds, took part in 14 Supreme Court confirmation hearings.

He grilled Anita Hill when the law professor raised sexual harassment complaints against then-Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas. That cost him some of the support he enjoyed from female voters, but, much like the stimulus vote, he felt it was the right thing to do, former Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell recalled.

All the while, Specter fought two earlier bouts with Hodgkin lymphoma, and overcame a brain tumor and cardiac arrest following bypass surgery. He then announced in August that he was again battling cancer.

"There are some things that even the most robust human spirit can't conquer," said Rendell, choking up.

His greatest legacy, his friends said, may be the $10 million in federal money he steered into cancer research.

Specter is also survived by his wife, Joan, son Steve and three other granddaughters.

Attack! Silent watchmen charge to defend the nervous system

ScienceDaily (Oct. 16, 2012) ? In many pathologies of the nervous system, there is a common event -- cells called microglia are activated from surveillant watchmen into fighters. Microglia are the immune cells of the nervous system, ingesting and destroying pathogens and damaged nerve cells. Until now little was known about the molecular mechanisms of microglia activation despite this being a critical process in the body. Now new research from the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital -- The Neuro -- at McGill University provides the first evidence that mechanisms regulated by the Runx1 gene control the balance between the surveillant versus activated microglia states.

The finding, published in the Journal of Neuroscience, has significant implications for understanding and treating neurological conditions.

As surveillant watchmen, microglial cells wait for something bad to happen in the nervous system. They have a small cell body and long branches that monitor the local environment. As soon as there are signs of injury or disease, microglia are activated into fighters. The branches retract and the microglia morph into a large rounded body in order to attack and ingest pathogens: bacteria, viruses, and diseased or injured nerve cells (for example in head trauma). If microglia activation is not precisely controlled, however, it can become harmful to the body as microglia can start to attack healthy cells. For example, after epileptic seizures, the brain responds by regenerating new nerve cells. The microglia help in this process of regeneration, but they can also negatively influence the survival of the new born nerve cells if their activation persists for too long. The research team at The Neuro therefore asked important questions: How can we learn how the process of activating microglia from watchmen to fighter is controlled? What can we do to ensure that the beneficial effects of microglia activation predominate over their potentially deleterious effects?

It turns out that the process of microglia activation in the adult brain is almost a recapitulation in reverse of mechanisms that occur during nervous system development. Microglia in the developing brain are already in an early form of fighter mode and have the capacity to eliminate cell debris and redundant nerve cell connections. Pruning of the nerve cell network is a normal process during development. Soon after birth microglia are gradually deactivated from early fighters to surveillant watchmen, a state that they will maintain until there is injury or trauma in the adult brain, which causes them to revert from watchmen back to fighters.

"So the approach we took was to study the normal process of microglia deactivation during brain development on the premise that understanding this process might also help us understand adult brain microglia activation in response to injury or disease," says Dr. Stefano Stifani, lead investigator and neuroscientist at The Neuro. "Our study provides evidence for a previously unrecognized role of a particular gene, termed Runx1, in promoting the transition of microglia from an early form of activated fighter to surveillant watchmen in the postnatal mouse brain. We show that Runx1 is expressed in these early fighter microglia during the first two postnatal weeks and that if Runx1 function in these cells is inhibited they tend to persist longer and their transition into watchmen microglia is delayed. We also looked at an experimental animal model in which an artificial injury causes surveillant microglia to be activated into fighters. This showed that Runx1 expression is induced in microglia when they become activated following injury in the adult mouse nervous system, suggesting that Runx1 might be important for controlling how long fighter microglia remain activated in the adult nervous system, as it does in the developing brain."

These findings improve our understanding of microglia biology in the developing and injured adult brain. Moreover, they have potential therapeutic implications for several neurological conditions -- further research could lead to the development of treatment strategies by pharmacologically targeting key modulators of microglia activation.

AUTHOR TO SHARE SUCCESS STORY AT WESTPORT WRITERS ...

October 15, 2012 (WESTPORT, CT) -- Anyone who still doubts that self-published authors can achieve mainstream publishing success will change their minds after hearing a galvanizing talk by Judy Mandel, author of Replacement Child (Seal Press/March, 2013) at the Westport Writers? Workshop on Monday, October 29 at 7:30 p.m. In a story guaranteed to inspire unknown authors, Mandel will demonstrate the value of publishing one?s eBook even after all the agents have said ?no.? She will also read excerpts from her memoir, a Barnes and Noble e-Book sensation.

Previously unknown to the publishing world, Judy Mandel pursued a career in public relations and corporate marketing before publishing Replacement Child. She now freelances through her own writing firm, Mandel Associates, in the greater Hartford area. ?

Judy Mandel?s memoir recounts the story of being conceived? by her parents to fill the void left after her seven-year-old sister, Donna, perished in a fire. But Donna?s was a legacy Judy could neither escape nor live up to. Besides recounting Judy?s personal story of her struggle to live up to that legacy, Replacement Child offers a poignant look at the nature of grief and how a family collectively copes with loss. ?In writing Replacement Child, I came to understand how my birth helped my parents heal. Something I had never considered before writing the book,? said Mandel.

After countless rejections by agents, Mandel decided to self-publish her memoir. ?It was a story I just wanted to be told,? said Mandel. As an eBook, Replacement Child caught on with readers and became a bona fide success. Literary agent, Rita Rosenkranz, and publishers took notice. A major contract with Seal Press, an imprint and division of Perseus Books was the result. Replacement Child is now slated for a March, 2013 paperback release and can be pre-ordered via www.replacementchild.com. The eBook is available at www.barnesandnoble.com and www.amazon.com.

The reviews have been outstanding. Wendy Thomas of Bookpleasures.com raved, ?Mandel?s memoir is as riveting and gut wrenching as any piece of thriller fiction I?ve read.? In addition, Replacement Child received a Self-Published Book Award from Writers?s Digest and the National Indie Excellence Award (NIEA). ?

?We?re thrilled to have Judy speak at the Westport Writers? Workshop about her self-publishing success. Writers will be both encouraged by her perseverance and inspired by the success she achieved by believing in herself and her own work. It promises to be a special evening,? said Jessica Bram, Westport Writers? Workshop?s Founder and Director.

Admission for the Author Talk is $15 or free for Westport Writers? Workshop members, and attendance is limited; pre-registration is required. Attendees should register online at? www.westportwritersworkshop.com or by calling (203) 227-3250.

Top 10 Most Common Small Business Website Mistakes

If you like this post, please say thanks by sharing it!

I think you?re highly likely to agree with me that one of the first ways the majority of your clients find you is somewhere online.

Either by searching, a link on another site, a video or maybe a listing in a directory or perhaps you are?successful?enough to have developed a brand that people are directly seeking out. Either way, people are going online in a number of different ways to find you.

Top 10 web design mistakes made by small business owners

We are What We do!

Of course people use their desktop and laptops but according to Google, mobile searches quadrupled in 2011

Did you read that?

Mobile searches QUADRUPLED and that was in 2011!!!!

This is something you need to be looking at if you are not already!

As a Business Owners you need to make sure that your website and online presence represents your business in the best possible way. Your website is an extension of you and your business and as I say, ?is normally the first contact prospects have with you.

Therefore its vital to get it right.

This post highlights the 10 most common mistakes I have seen on a regular basis?

1. Not having a website at all!

Well lets start with the cardinal sin of not having a website at all! Obviously social media is still a bit scary for some business owners so of course we forgive those who haven?t (yet) got a social networking presence but not having a website in this day and age is just plain stupid!

Most people who have access to the Internet will use it to search for products and services more than flipping through a directory book.

2. Having an old fashioned, 80?s style website

Some things come back into fashion such as hairstyles and clothes but it?s stating the obvious to say that websites simply don?t! Now if your prospects are judging you and your business by the content and information you put online, it?s obvious that you want this to represent you in the best possible light!

In fact I would be as bold to say you could present an incredible online image when the reality is you work from your shed? albeit delivering great products and services but you can easily create that type of image. It?s clearly not a good strategy for that to work in reverse! A lot of people judge a business by their website. If your website looks out of date then maybe your service is as well?

3. Poor navigation
Does your website requires someone with a PHD in web design or perhaps an awful lot of patience, as well as a lot of free time to find out what they want on your site? If so, then I?m afraid to say it?s bad news and give up the game right now or make some drastic changes! On average a person gives up on a poorly designed site in a matter of seconds. There are just too many options out there to waste time.

4. Animation, Flash and Huge background Pics
As it?s clear more and more people use their smart phones to search, the last thing you want to do is ask them to suck up their entire monthly data bill to view your home page! This will not endear you to people who are trying to become your customers!

People want the information straightaway and want fast loading and clear information to what you can do for them.

5. Video and Music
I love both video and music?. but not on a website that the minute you click onto it, a video starts or some rubbish background music starts playing. This is a big time mistake as it just annoys people! Don?t!
6. Overuse of different colors and fonts
Your site should not be an electronic version of a Christmas tree. Stick to a maximum of 3-4 fonts and colors. Clean, simple and efficient ? look at Google.com

7. Don?t get ripped off by web developers
We all like good deals and we all like value for money. The amount of people I talk to who have paid through the nose for their website is incredible. People think they need a new website for their business, so they go to their local web design agency who probably knows little if anything about marketing ? to be frank, at risk of upsetting lots of web designers, lots are good technically, but terrible about marketing! They then get charged ?3 or ?4k for a brochure style website that does very little for them. 3 or 4 years then pass and then they go through the whole process again!

So let?s get it done right the first time so you have a website that evolves, develops and changes as you and your business does.

8. Trying to be too clever with your design

Websites which leave people wondering what the hell its about will not win you any customers. Make sure your site is easy to understand and provides the information your visitors want ? fast. Leave the confusing designs and ?metaphors? to design people who like to impress each other.

9. Making it too hard for people to find out how to contact you
Believe it or not, this is still a common mistake! Yup, even today, businesses are making it really hard for you to contact them.

What is that all about?! Of course the most common top requirement for most business websites is to get your customer to make contact with you in one way or another? so make it easy for them!

10. Don?t just have one site
What I hear you say?! Well you are probably away that I own online business cards website PrintRepublic but I don?t just rely on that site to do ALL my hard graft!

I have a number of other sites out there and I am continually building and developing more all the time!

Why? Simple, one net will only catch a certain amount of fish. Cast other nets and you catch a wide variety of different types of fish and you increase your catch!

Check out this ?Business Card Printing website

So if you want help building sites like this for your business?. Please feel free to get in touch?

Baby boomers worry about health-care costs | GoErie.com/Erie ...

Baby boomers nearing retirement should start planning now how they are going to pay for their future health care. A recent Harris Interactive poll found almost half of Americans are "extremely" or "very" worried about how to pay for these costs in retirement.

People on Medicare now spend three times more out-of pocket for health care compared to non-Medicare households -- 14.7 percent of income vs. 4.9 percent, according to the National Council on Aging.

Financial planners suggest five ways to help rein in costs:

1) Make sure you sign up for Medicare in time, said Jenny Rothstein, a Schwab financial consultant in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. You have a seven-month window to do so: the three months before and after the month you turn 65, she said. You'll have to pay penalties if you enroll late and your benefits will be postponed until July 1, Rothstein said.

?

2) Look into supplemental insurance. Rothstein said it's also important to add a supplemental policy, such as Medigap or Medicare Advantage. Medicare won't cover everything, she warned. But the good news is that Florida has a variety of policies since so many seniors live there. Boomers can do comparison shopping on medicare.com.

?

3) Work now on good health habits. One of the best places of saving money on health care is to stay healthy, said Boca Raton, Fla., financial planner Mari Adam. Some of her retired clients have not been to the hospital in decades because they exercise, eat well, watch their blood pressure and watch for former health scares they once encountered, such as skin cancer.

?

4) Budget now for eye and dental care that can become expensive and might not be covered by any insurance policy. Several of Adam's clients had expensive dental work, she said. Medicare doesn't cover dental needs, she added.

?

5) Consider long-term care policies, as seniors say such insurance has helped spouses cope with their loved ones' needs if they are diagnosed with Alzheimer's or other debilitating diseases.

(AP) ? Ray Lewis has been placed on injured reserve with the "designated to return" tag, which provides him the chance to play again this season.

Lewis tore his right triceps in Sunday's game against Dallas. He was scheduled to undergo surgery on Wednesday.

His return his season is unlikely, but by being designated to return, the 37-year-old is eligible to come back in six weeks.

Coach John Harbaugh says, "We have no idea whether that time frame has anything to do with the injury, but there's an opportunity and we're going to keep the door open."

The loss of Lewis was balanced somewhat by the return of linebacker Terrell Suggs, who practiced Wednesday for the first time this season. Suggs has been out with a torn right Achillies tendon.

About Uganda:

Location and Size Uganda is a landlocked country? astride the equator, about 800 kilometers inland from the Indian Ocean.? It lies on the northwestern shores of Lake Victoria, extending from 1? south to 4 north latitude and 30 to 35 east longitude.

Uganda is? bordered by Tanzania and Rwanda to the south, Democratic Republic of? Congo (DRC) to the west, Sudan to the north, and Kenya to the east. With? a land surface of 241,139 square kilometers, Uganda occupies most of? the Lake Victoria Basin, which was formed by the geological shifts that? created the Rift Valley during the Pleistocene era. The Ssese Islands and? other small islands in Lake Victoria also lie within Uganda?s borders. Ecologically, Uganda is? where the East African Savannah meets the West African jungle.

Weather and Climate

Uganda has? the gift of holiday weather year around.? There are two reasons, one is? its location on the equator and the other is its elevation.? Both of? these give Uganda the gift of perfect weather. The majority of the? country has a tropical climate which varies according to altitude;? during the year the hottest months are from December to February when? the temperature reaches 29 degrees Celsius while rainy seasons are from? April to May and October to November; with the wettest month being? April. Even during the two rainy seasons, the sun is out most of the? time and rain often occurs with a most delightful thunderstorm and when? it rains, it pours but soon the sun?s rays have dried up the earth once? again.

Temperatures in some parts of the country can be quite? cool owing to the country?s high altitude, despite its position on the? equator. The mountain areas become much cooler and the tops of Mount? Elgon and Rwenzori Mountains are often covered in snow. Other parts of? the country are much warmer.

?

Population:

Uganda has the world?s youngest population with a median? age of 15. The country?s estimated population 2010 was 33m.

People and Culture

Uganda has a very strong cultural heritage.? It is composed of many regions, each with different cultures. The? recent restoration of kingdoms has boosted up cultural sites. These? include Buganda, Busoga, Bunyoro and Toro. Ugandans hail from a? diversity of rich cultures and life styles and are remarkably? hospitable. Each tribe has its own traditional dance; the Banyankole? perform their Kitaguriro dance, the Banyoro have their Runyege, Acholi? have the Bwila and Otole dances. The Alur have the Agwal dance and the? Bagisu have the Imbalu dance during circumcision ceremonies.

Culture and traditions are also expressed? through a wide range of arts and crafts made from wood, papyrus reeds? and local materials. These include blacksmith implements, beaded jewelry, wood carvings and batiks. They can be found all over the city? in village bazaars, gift shops, hotels, urban galleries and the National Theater Craft Market. While on your Uganda travel or safari, consider? taking on a cultural tour to the known destinations.

Listing Agent Refused Inspection Response - Zillow Real Estate ...

I like both of the previous responses:

Like John - I'd be curious to know what the managing broker says. A listing agent does have a responsibility to submit all offers. I would have your agent (who is supposed to be advocating for you despite office relations) encourage the listing agent to just turn it in, even if they already know that it's going to be a "no". If the seller says no or doesn't respond, then so be it. At that point you can walk away.

Like wetdawgs, depending on the seller (and contract) you are working with, the inspection may have simply been for peace of mind and not for re-opening negotiations (several banks specifically state this in the contract you sign - so you may want to double check).

The only time I've successfully been able to negotiate for the bank to do any work for a buyer is if something shows up on an appraisal that would keep us from getting financing. In that case, I have seen a bank agree to doing work to get to closing...but that has been rare.

Keep in mind that Rodent and Insulation issues in the Crawlspace are incredibly common in this area and can really add up (depending on the damage). I just had some clients get a quote for over $6k to remedy all of the rodent/insulation issues in a house.

Best of luck!

ASUS PadFone 2 vs PadFone 1... hang out!

ASUS PadFone 2 vs PadFone 1 hang out!

While getting their hands dirty with the ASUS PadFone 2, our guys over at Engadget Chinese also had the chance to compare it with the OG PadFone, and they came back with a generous batch of side-by-side shots. Here you can see how the phone itself is almost just a scaled-up copy of its predecessor, while the new PadFone Station slate loses some body fat by shedding the original docking bay cover, and we're certain that the battery has become denser and lighter as well to achieve this amazing diet -- we're talking about losing just over 200g here! Also apparent is the new 13-pin dock connector at the bottom of both the phone and the tablet. For the rest, we shall let your eyes do the work in the gallery below. Enjoy!
