If you use Google products regularly and have not disabled your Web history, a new feature called Google Activity might be an eye opener. It's a monthly report from the search giant that shows just how many emails you send, your most frequent contacts, where you go and what you've been searching online.

As described on the official Google Blog, Google Activity is "a password-protected report with insights into your signed-in use of Google services." So, if you have given Google open access to your Web History, the report will give you how many searches you've done, top queries and search types (Web vs. images, for instance).?

If you've consented to Google Latitude tracking where you are, then you'll find places you've visited, recent trips and a pie chart breaking down where you spend your time per week (between home, work and being out).

I've rejected both of those, so my report is on the thin side, but it did tell me that I sent 219 emails to 92 contacts, while receiving a whopping 1,797 emails from 415 contacts. And then it gave me the top three people who I've had the most contact with in the past month. I'm not surprised, but it is interesting to see it all laid out.

Bigtime YouTubers (that wouldn't be me, with a paltry 137 views of my uploaded videos) will also get details on their video views, most popular uploaded video and where their viewers are located.

There will no doubt be some griping, as usual, about the intrusiveness of Google into users' lives -- but this kind of transparency may give you insight into what personal data, exactly, Google is collecting from you. If you have opted out of some of these products, as I have, it's going to generate a report that might actually reassure you. And if not, maybe it'll be a good reminder to change your privacy settings and lock down your activity.

Earlier this month, on March 1, Google caused a commotion by consolidating all its privacy data from all its products to better sell its user information (in a big, general way) to its advertisers. We told you how to clear your Web History, and within that story, you'll also find instructions for clearing out your activity on YouTube.

THE NUMBER ONE Reason Relationships Fail | Marriage Success

I realize it?s a bold statement to say THE NUMBER ONE reason relationships fail has been located. Well, it has been located and thousands are using this information to dramatically improve their relationships.

Before I get into it, let me tell you briefly about myself.?My name is Stan Dubin and I live in Clearwater, Florida.

I run a national counseling firm that sends highly-skilled counselors around the United States and Canada. We help individuals and couples improve their lives to their satisfaction.

Image2Here is a picture of my family?

On my left is my wife, Mary Ann. And that?s our daughter, Chelsea, to my right.

My wife and I have been married for 34 years. Has it been a smooth ride all the way through? No. There have been some tough spots, some very tough. But we applied the same information that is being made available to you here, and each time we did, our marriage improved dramatically.

So enough about me, let?s get on with it?

After extensively studying human relationships, L. Ron Hubbard said: ?Man has learned where he has agreed upon codes of conduct or what is proper, he survives, and where he has not agreed, he doesn?t survive.?

When people get together, in a relationship or in any kind of group situation, they make certain agreements with each other.

In the workplace we usually agree to be on time, to work hard, to be as productive as possible.

Wedding2In a marriage, we agree to be faithful, to be honest, to be supportive.

When people create a relationship (of any kind), agreements are essential to that relationship.

We may not put all of these agreements in writing, but they do exist.

THE NUMBER ONE Reason Relationships Fail

When we do something that ?breaks? any of these agreements, we KNOW that we?ve done so. We may try to convince ourselves that ?it was unavoidable? or ?the other person deserved it.? It doesn?t matter. We know that we?ve done something that, in some way, has violated an agreement of the relationship.

Unhappy_marriageWhen these agreements are broken?

The communication in the relationship goes down.

Sometimes a little.

Sometimes a lot.

There are all kinds and ?sizes? of broken agreements.

For example, here are two ?small? broken agreements that might occur in a marriage:

The husband agrees to take out the trash every Friday night and one Friday night, he doesn?t do so.

The wife agrees to use the credit card ONLY for essential items. One day she puts $50 on the card so that she can take the son to a baseball game.

And of course there are large broken agreements. An affair would be one obvious example.

So, we?ve got different kinds and different sizes of broken agreements.

Unhappy_marriage2

People do not just fall out of love with each other. That?s what they may say and that?s what they may feel, but factually they have both simply accumulated too many ?broken agreements.?

These do not have to be of a very serious nature. But over time, they can mount up and then the following happens:

Married couples separate or get divorced.

Lovers break up.

Friendships fall apart.

Kids treat their parents poorly (and vice versa).

Any type of relationship can be destroyed when there are too many ?broken agreements.?

Why am I so sure of this?

When thousands of people addressed this exact point in their relationship, things improved DRAMATICALLY.

If these broken agreements are THE problem, then what?s the solution?

When_the_thrill_is_goneAfter 25 years of helping individuals and couples, I wrote a book that I am not making available free as an eBook. The book is called:

When the Thrill Is Gone, How to Put the Life and Excitement Back Into Any Relationship

In this book is a very exact procedure that handles this problem of ?broken agreements.?

To get this free eBook, click here.

Is your marriage not doing well? Apply the information in Chapter 4 exactly the way it?s laid out, and you will feel much better about your marriage.

If your spouse also applies the information in Chapter 4, even better. But if your spouse does not, you will still feel enormously better.

Unhappy_marriage3Have you just had a big fight with your spouse?

Then go to Chapter 6. There are two simple but powerful procedures there to help defuse the fight.

Apply those procedures and you will feel much better.

Are you still upset about a previous relationship? Go to Chapter 10 and apply the two procedures there. If you follow those exactly, you will feel MUCH better. Many people have applied the two procedures in Chapter 10 and they were able to completely let go of the previous relationship and move on.

Speaking of moving on, are you looking to start a new relationship?

Chapters 11, 12 and 13 give you the information you need to make the right choice.

Are you upset with a close friend? A neighbor? A family member?

If you sit down and apply the information in Chapter 4, you will feel much better and be able to deal with the upset. Do NOT be surprised if the upset completely disappears. It happens quite often when this information is applied.

Paul Silovsky from Topeka, Kansas said the following:

?My wife and I have applied the materials in Stan Dubin?s book several times throughout our marriage and each time we were able to resolve a marital problem.

?Sometimes these problems would seem rather daunting, but having the right information made a huge difference and actually made our relationship better than ever before! Yes, we strongly recommend the book.?

?

Happy_marriage3

Christina Panetta from Oakdale, New York had this to say:

?Restoring my relationship with Richard is the biggest win. I do know that it was meant for Richard and I to continue on our journey together.

?I just never realized how much my loss of communicating with him was impacting on other areas of my life. Thank you ? thank you ? thank you!!! for helping Richard and I find our way back to one another.?

?

Happy_marriage4

And finally, from Jeannette Buckles of Palm Harbor, Florida:

?In Oct 2007, Peter and I will be married twenty years. For both of us, this is our second marriage. Using the information in the book When the Thrill Is Gone has helped us to make this marriage a true success.

?When we first got together, we loved and cared for each other tremendously. And that love and care has continued to grow to this day. It?s a real joy to be this happily married.?

?

So there you go.

Realizing Real-Estate And Online Day Trading Requirements

Having heard of numerous success testimonies of people who have engaged in an internet based real estate or day trading enterprise, you?re in all probability 1 of those who are anxious to try it as well. Then what exactly is stopping you? A great deal of individuals are reluctant about trying an online trading or Ipanema real estate business enterprise simply because they have the notion that promising careers usually need the most difficult, lengthiest and most high priced preparing to get up and running. Yet that is not often the case. Well, at least not for a trading and buying apartments in Copacabana.

In getting started with a trading online business, the very very first thing you need to accumulate is an acceptable education about it. Country star George Jones hospitalized

Suzi Altman / Zuma Press

By Natalie Finn, E! Online

Things haven't exactly gone to pieces, but George Jones needs a moment to regroup anyway.

The County Music Hall of Famer was hospitalized in Nashville Thursday with an upper respiratory infection and doctors -- who determined that he doesn't have pneumonia -- want to keep him at least overnight for observation, according to a statement on Jones' website.

But don't start calling him "No Show Jones" just yet.

MORE: George Jones Cheats Death

The "He Stopped Loving Her Today" singer isn't scheduled to hit the road again until April 20, when he's due in Minnesota, so here's hoping the 80-year-old icon is feeling healthy by then.

Jones is perhaps just as well known in the country world for his often substance-fueled exploits as he is for his music. The hitmaker, who was famously married to Tammy Wynette from 1969 to 1975, was in a near-fatal DUI crash in 1999 that left him with a punctured lung
and lacerated liver.

He's been battling back ever since, performing at awards shows and maintaining a busy touring schedule. Jones is also nominated for Vocal Event of the Year heading into the 47th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards for collaborating with Aaron Lewis and Charlie Daniels on "Country Boy."

Asked just last week by Pantagraph.com how he feels about being referred to as a living legend, Jones replied, "Well, it is nice to know people think you're a legend -- especially a living legend."

"I think if you ask anyone my age why they keep working, they'll say, 'If I retire, what am I going to retire to?'" he said. "What would I do with my time?"

GOP weighs changes to indefinite detention law

(AP) ? Facing a conservative backlash, House Republicans are working to change a new law that allows the indefinite detention without trial of terrorist suspects, even U.S. citizens seized within the nation's borders.

Republicans and Democratic lawmakers said this week that the GOP majority on the House Armed Services Committee was weighing several proposals to revise the provision on indefinite detention that was part of the far-reaching defense bill that Congress passed in December and President Barack Obama signed into law.

Last year, Congress' approach to handling terror suspects divided Republicans and Democrats, pitted the White House against lawmakers and drew fierce opposition from civil liberties groups. The anger still lingers, and GOP leaders are under pressure from a number of rank-and-file members, tea partyers and libertarians to change the law.

"I intend to help put as much political pressure on this issue as possible," said Rep. Justin Amash, R-Mich., whose staff has spoken to the Armed Services panel. "I intend to spend a lot of time ? and I already have been doing so ? making the public aware of this issue so we can get the change we need to address it."

Officials for the committee led by Rep. Howard "Buck" McKeon, R-Calif., had no comment on the possible changes to be included in a defense bill, which could be completed this summer. The discussions are preliminary, but one possibility is greater review for those detained indefinitely, said Rep. Adam Smith of Washington state, the committee's top Democrat.

Conservatives fear that the detention provision could result in unfettered power for the federal government, allowing it to detain American citizens indefinitely for even a one-time contribution to a humanitarian group that's later linked to terrorism. They argue that would be a violation of long-held constitutional rights. Also disconcerting to the GOP is the reality that the current government is led by Democrat Obama.

Several Democrats also have criticized the provision as an example of government overreach and an unnecessary obstacle to the administration's war against terrorism, creating an unusual political coalition in Congress.

In the months since the bill became law, some Republicans who backed the legislation have been challenged at town halls and other meetings with constituents, a turn of events that unnerves the GOP.

"There clearly has been some blowback and that's what the Republicans are trying to address," Smith said.

The indefinite detention provision denies suspected terrorists, including U.S. citizens seized within the nation's borders, the right to trial and subjects them to the possibility they would be held indefinitely. It reaffirms the post-Sept. 11 authorization for the use of military force that allows indefinite detention of enemy combatants. In hopes of quelling the furor, lawmakers added language that said nothing in the law may be "construed to affect existing law or authorities relating to the detention of United States citizens, lawful resident aliens of the United States, or any other persons who are captured or arrested in the United States."

When Obama signed the bill on Dec. 31, he issued a statement saying he had serious reservations about provisions on the detention, interrogation and prosecution of suspected terrorists. Such signing statements are common and allow presidents to raise constitutional objections to circumvent Congress' intent.

"My administration will not authorize the indefinite military detention without trial of American citizens," Obama said in the signing statement. "Indeed, I believe that doing so would break with our most important traditions and values as a nation."

In February, the Obama administration outlined new rules on when the FBI, rather than the military, could be allowed to retain custody of al-Qaida terrorism suspects who aren't U.S. citizens but are arrested by federal law enforcement officers. The new procedures spelled out seven circumstances in which the president could place a suspect in FBI, rather than military, custody, including a waiver when it could impede counterterrorism cooperation with another government or when it could interfere with efforts to secure an individual's cooperation or confession.

But that's not sufficient for some lawmakers.

Smith and Sen. Mark Udall, D-Colo., have introduced legislation that would repeal the provision on indefinite detention and reverse the mandatory military custody for foreign terrorist suspects linked to al-Qaida or its affiliates and involved in plotting or attacking the United States.

"I will continue to push that bill," Smith said in an interview. "I know the majority is also putting together some ideas. They're very process-focused. ... I have not seen specifics of that proposal yet and we'll talk to them about it, but obviously I have a much stronger position on that and think that we don't need to have indefinite detention or military custody for the people in the U.S."

Amash is determined to change the law, using town halls in his district and the long reach of Facebook to get his message out. He said many Republicans voted for the defense bill in December after they were promised that legislation fixing the provision would be introduced after Christmas. He's still waiting.

"What I've seen from members of Armed Services Committee is basically an attempt to justify the language as it stands," Amash said. "And considering the extent to which they've dug in their heels on this issue, I'd be surprised if they're actually going to make a real and credible change to the language."

University of Arizona physicists are making discoveries that may advance electronic circuit technology

Graphite, more commonly known as pencil lead, could become the next big thing in the quest for smaller and less power-hungry electronics.

Resembling chicken wire on a nano scale, graphene single sheets of graphite is only one atom thick, making it the world's thinnest material. Two million graphene sheets stacked up would not be as thick as a credit card.

The tricky part physicists have yet to figure out how to control the flow of electrons through the material, a necessary prerequisite for putting it to work in any type of electronic circuit. Graphene behaves very different than silicon, the material currently used in semiconductors.

Last year, a research team led by University of Arizona physicists cleared the first hurdle by identifying boron nitride, a structurally identical but non-conducting material, as a suitable mounting surface for single-atom sheets of graphene. The team also showed that in addition to providing mechanical support, boron nitride improves the electronic properties of graphene by smoothening out fluctuations in the electronic charges.

Now the team found that boron nitride also influences how the electrons travel through the graphene. Published in Nature Physics, the results open up new ways of controlling the electron flow through graphene.

"If you want to make a transistor for example, you need to be able to stop the flow of electrons," said Brian LeRoy, an assistant professor in the University of Arizona's department of physics. "But in graphene, the electrons just keep going. It's difficult to stop them."

LeRoy said relativistic quantum mechanical effects that come into play at atomic scales cause electrons to behave in ways that go against our everyday experiences of how objects should behave.

Take tennis balls, for example.

"Normally, when you throw a tennis ball against a wall, it bounces back," LeRoy said. "Now think of the electrons as tennis balls. With quantum mechanical effects, there is a chance the ball would go through and end up on the other side. In graphene, the ball goes through 100 percent of the time."

This strange behavior makes it difficult to control where electrons are going in graphene. However, as LeRoy's group has now discovered, mounting graphene on boron nitride prevents some of the electrons from passing to the other side, a first step toward a more controlled electron flow.

The group achieved this feat by placing graphene sheets onto boron nitride at certain angles, resulting in the hexagonal structures in both materials to overlap in such a way that secondary, larger hexagonal patterns are created. The researchers call this structure a superlattice.

If the angle is just right, they found, a point is reached where almost no electrons go through.

"You could say we created holes in the wall," LeRoy said, "and as soon as the wall has holes in it, we find that some of the tennis balls no longer go through. It's the opposite of what you would expect. That shows you how weird this is. It's all due to those relativistic quantum effects."

The discovery puts the technology a bit closer to someday being able to actually control the flow of electrons through the graphene, the authors of the paper said.

"The effect depends on the size of the hexagonal pattern resulting from the overlapping sheets," explained Matthew Yankowitz, a first-year graduate student in LeRoy's lab and the study's lead author.

The pattern, he explained, creates a periodic modulation of the potential picture a ball rolling across an egg carton.

"It's a purely electronic effect brought about by the structure of the two materials and how they sit on top of each other," Yankowitz said. "It's similar to the Moir pattern you see when someone wears a striped shirt on TV."

As of now, the researchers are not yet able to control how the graphene and boron nitride end up oriented relative to each other when they combine the two materials. Therefore, they make many samples and check the structure of each one under an electron microscope.

"With our scanning tunneling microscope, we can get an image of each superlattice and measure its size," Yankowitz said. "We take a picture and see what the pattern looks like. If the hexagonal pattern is too small, the samples are no good and we throw them out."

Yankowitz said about 10 to 20 percent of samples showed the desired effect.

If it becomes possible to someday automate this process, graphene-based microelectronics might be well on their way to propel us from the silicon age to the graphene age.

The research study is a collaboration among LeRoy's lab and researchers at MIT in Cambridge, Mass., the National Institute for Materials Science in Tsukuba, Japan and the University of Geneva, Switzerland. The UA portion of the project was funded by grants from the U.S. Army Research Office and the National Science Foundation.

Mega Millions Winning Numbers: NOT Yours!

Tuesday's multi-state Mega Millions lottery drawing saw the following winning numbers unveiled: 9-19-34-44-51 and 24 for the Mega number!!!!!!

Alas, nobody won across 40+ states.

The jackpot has now been raised to a record $476 million for the next drawing, to be held Friday. The previous record for largest jackpot was $390M in 2007.

The odds of winning are roughly 1 in 176 million, but somehow we're guessing that isn't about to stop an absurd number of people from giving it a shot.

Apple stock is paying dividends now. Just FYI.

Joshua Ledet: An Angel on American Idol?

Like Elise Testone last night, Joshua Ledet tackled one of the most difficult songs an American Idol finalist can cover: "Without You," originally written by Harry Nilsson and performed by Mariah Carey.

Did he pull it off?

Hmmm... let's ask Jennifer Lopez: "You are a phenom! You are an absolute angel from heaven. That voice is a godsend!"

We think that's a yes. Ledet poured every ounce of emotion he could into the audition, wiping his brow at one point as the violinists played behind him and showing off his incredible range via multiple runs in the middle. Watch now and try not to be impressed:

Baby Boomers

Baby BoomersWe are seventy-six million strong. We are that group of children born post WWII ? 1946 to 1963.

We went to Woodstock and Vietnam, we rode city-buses and protested in Central Park. We partied in the Village, surfed the coast, souped up our cars, chopped out motorcycles, grew our hair long ? went to war, or Canada, as the case may be.

According to a sixties song we are a generation lost in space.

I was ?born in 1954. I qualify.

After World War II, men came home from Europe and the Pacific, combat weary and ready to raise a family. By the millions they starting having babies.

Society was on the brink of a shift in culture never before seen on this planet. The simplicity of life was about to get a whole lot more complicated.

Baby BoomerWe watched an enemy we didn?t know park atomic warheads 90 miles from Florida. We climbed under our desks in response. (I still haven?t figured that one out.) We were this close to being?wiped out by an media built enemy. I?ve learned that Children in Russia can die just as fast as children in South Carolina. I didn?t know that then.

We watched Kennedy get shot in Dallas and sometime later his brother met the same fate.

We watched men walk on the moon.

Everything changed and we went along for the ride. Elvis, The Beatles, and The British Invasion stepped aside for Donna Summer and Disco.

Nixon resigned, J. Edgar died, Twiggy was the rage, and Laugh-In rebuilt television from the laugh-track up.

From the 70s to now we saw major technological advances in computers, health care, communications and space exploration. We started having children.

The 80s gave us the internet and some short years later our children were having children. We had gone from the counter-culture to grand-children in the span of 30 years.

Today we are on the verge of crossing the finish line at the promised land of retirement.

Funny thing is the game changed on the way to Social Security. Now that we are here the folks guarding our investment are saying ? ?Oops- we didn?t know you were coming so soon. We had to use your money to pay for other things ? like war and bailing out auto companies and saving mortgage bankers from the cost of their own greed.?

A day of reckoning is upon us and the old chants of the 60s may come in handy?

?By the time we got to Woodstock? we were half a million strong. And everywhere was a song and a celebration.?

I am baby boomer ? hear me creak!

The Benefits of A Self-Enhanced View of You:New Findings ...

By Suzanne Phillips, Psy.D., ABPP

Do you think you have an inflated sense of self?

Do you have positive illusions about the way you compare with others, make decisions, control your circumstances?

While this enhanced self-perception may not, particularly in the extreme, cause you to win friends and influence people ? it may actually serve you well in buffering stress and coping with adversity.

A recent study by Gupta and Bonanno gathered longitudinal data to examine the relationship between self-enhancement and adjustment of college students to potentially traumatic events over their four years. It is the only study to date using on-going reactions instead of post trauma retrospective reports.

  • The researchers used Paulhus? ?Self-Deceptive Enhancement Scale? to measure self-enhancement. As such, the issue of whether biased perceptions of self could promote mental health coping was put in the forefront because this scale measured unrealistic or overly positive self-perceptions in 20 self-descriptive statements like,? I am very confident in my judgments,? ?I always know why I like things,? ?My first impressions of people usually turn out to be right.?
  • The 101 student participants completed the ?Self-Deceptive Enhancement Scale? as well as other self-report measures of distress and social desirability a month after they began college and four years later.
  • Every week over the course of the four years, with the exception of a retrospective view of the summer, participants filled in an on-line questionnaire to report if they had experienced a potentially traumatic event (i.e. death of someone close, divorce of parents, serious illness etc.) and if so, the degree of distress it caused from 0 to 4.

The findings are interesting and significant.

  • Most student participants experienced a mean of 4.4 potentially traumatic events over the course of the four years.
  • For those students with low self-enhancement scores, the increase from low to high potentially traumatic events resulted in a significant positive increase in fourth-year distress.
  • For those students who scored high on self-enhancement scores, there was no significant increase in distress in the fourth year, even when they also experienced an increase from low to high potentially traumatic events ? and even in face of the events they reported to be most stressful ? suicide, serious injury or illness.
  • The evidence demonstrates that self-enhancement serves as a buffer against the harmful impact and distress of trauma.

?Why Does A Self-Enhanced View of Self Serve As A Buffer In The Face Of Traumatic Events?

As the researchers suggest, when someone has experienced highly aversive and threatening events, their sense of self, judgment, mastery and control has been assaulted. As Boulanger suggests, they have been ? wounded by reality.? Coping and recovery necessitate dealing with a sense of helplessness to recover a more positive view of self.

It would seem that a positive, self-enhanced view of self, while biased and not strictly defined by reality, may make it easier to re-frame, re-define and re-instate a self who can manage and cope despite obstacles or changes in life?s parameters.

The Power of Positive Thinking and Illusions After Trauma

  • On a personal note, what this study offers us is further validation of the power of the positive in healing in the aftermath of trauma. It underscores the merit of believing in ourselves to make possible what seems impossible to bear.
  • The Taylor Brown Positive Illusions Formulation ? This is a workable formulation for applying a positive perspective to life?s uncharted paths. Taylor and Brown propose and find in their research that when not reflecting a maladaptive extreme- Positive Illusions About Self, Illusions of Control and Unrealistic Optimism are associated with mental health and coping in the face of trauma and aversive events.

Positive Illusions: Most of us have them. For example, studies show that most people rate themselves ?better than average? in driving, leadership, and athletic abilities, teaching ability etc.? Such illusions carry with them a sense of psychological well-being. They help us find a way not to sweat the small stuff and to find a way to manage the big stuff.

It is to the advantage of the accident patient to feel ?I am healing better than most.? ?I will be back to driving quicker than the doctor expected.? ?I am a smart patient ? I understand what I have to do.?

Illusions of Control: Most people believe that they can control more than they actually can in life. What is important and relevant to improved coping is that people do switch their control related beliefs as life and the unexpected intrude. For example, the cancer patient switches from survival or complete cure to control of symptoms and life tasks.

It the belief that you can still make a difference ? still exert control that is positive and health promoting. Whether it is to re-define a way to work or to plan to race with a prosthesis ? in new domains control continues and is associated with good adjustment.

Unrealistic Optimism: Perhaps what makes optimism such a gift is that it is not grounded in reality. Studies suggest that most people anticipate that their future will be brighter than can be reasonably justified statistically. That?s the importance of optimism ? it is about hope and possibilities.

Traumatologist and Advocate for International Victim?s Rights, Yael Daneli described that when she worked with survivors in Rwanda, the adults could not look past the reality of death and destruction to hope but when she told the children that no one could take away their dreams ? they got it ? they had hope.

Think Big, Feel Big, Dream Big, Live with Hope.

Taking the Travel Business to an eCommerce Platform | Share Results

In spite of consumers spending less and a global economy that has continued to show slow signs of recovery, the online travel business is continuing to grow. Market research firm yStats.com released a report called Global Online Travel Report 2012 this month, which looked at trends and hot spots for the travel industry. The good news is that more owners are recognizing the importance of supporting their travel business with an ecommerce platform.

Here are some standout points for merchants who have yet to or are thinking about taking their travel businesses online:

  • In places like Russia and Great Britain, more than half of travelers bypassed traditional travel agents and went online to book during 2011. This means the internet is a valuable channel for acquiring travel leads.
  • In the United States, online travel booking via mobile devices is expected to grow by 51% in 2012 and triple by 2013.
  • Online bookings are expected to see continued growth, especially to destinations such as India and China. With online bookings comes a need for added growth, especially in affiliate marketing, to deliver a high volume of traffic.
  • Google?s Flight Search, a tool aimed at helping travellers find the best flights, has added international destinations to its coverage. For competing online travel agencies, the race for greater online market share will be fierce.

If your business offers flights, accommodation, rentals, , recreation, dining, events or tourist related specialty services, you would be wise to consider setting up an ecommerce platform. As the online travel industry continues to grow, consumers will be expecting to research and book their travel arrangements online. If you are not making full use of the internet for your marketing campaigns you are missing 30% of your potential market.

What are your thoughts about the online travel market? Do you book your travel arrangements online? Leave us your feedback in the comments section below.

Small Reactors Make a Bid to Revive Nuclear Power

advanced-test-reactor FUTURE REACTOR: The Advanced Test Reactor at Idaho National Laboratory, with a maximum capacity of 250 megawatts, would qualify as a small modular design, although it is primarily used to test nuclear components for larger reactors. Image: Courtesy of Idaho National Laboratory

Small may be beautiful for the nuclear power industry So argue a host of would-be builders of novel nuclear reactors. While the U.S. government has not given up on investing in large units that boast conventional designs, the Department of Energy has also announced the availability of $450 million in funds to support engineering and licensing of so-called "small modular reactors."

"The Obama Administration and the Energy Department are committed to an all-of-the-above energy strategy that develops every source of American energy, including nuclear power," said Secretary of Energy Steven Chu in a statement announcing the funding, which aims to get such modular reactors hooked into the grid by 2022. "The Energy Department and private industry are working to position America as the leader in advanced nuclear energy technology and manufacturing."

Globally, large reactor designs remain the predominant technology. One alternative to cut costs could be small, novel reactors, appropriate for areas with smaller electricity demands or as part of a flexible power production facility that could scale up quickly as necessary. Small reactors would have a maximum capacity of 300 megawatts of electricity, or enough to power more than 200,000 U.S. homes for a year. In addition, the reactors would be modular?made in factories and shipped to sites?to reduce costs.

But such reactors still require the same electricity-generating, safety, and waste disposal systems as the hulking light-water reactors presently being built as well as identical rigorous licensing requirements, at least in the U.S.?and that may cost them. "Yeah, there's less concrete and, yeah, there's less steel in the reactor vessel," says nuclear engineer Eric Loewen, chief consulting engineer at GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy, which is proposing a modular fast reactor to help the U.K. with its plutonium problem. But the list of other expenses associated with nuclear will not change with the new designs and "that gives pause to small modular reactors."

Mini-nuke
A modern pressurized water reactor, like the two being built in Georgia, can pump out more than 1,000 megawatts worth of power using the heat from fission to boil water to spin a turbine. Babcock & Wilcox?one-time builder of large pressurized water reactors as well as smaller ones suitable for the submarines of the U.S. Navy?would like to shrink those down to just 180 megawatts. "It's not for lack of knowledge of how to build big reactors," says Chris Mowry, president of B&W Modular Nuclear Energy.

Instead, B&W suggests that the fundamental problem facing the adoption of nuclear power is not the technology itself, but the financial risk of committing to a build a big nuclear reactor. Simply put, even the largest utilities do not have the capital to build a $7 billion reactor, and such large projects have a tendency to see costs balloon as projects are delayed. A case in point is the Tennessee Valley Authority's bid to complete a second reactor at its Watts Bar Nuclear Power Plant. The reactor, first begun in the 1970s and resumed in 2007, is behind schedule and "will cost more than forecast," admits TVA spokesman Terry Johnson. "It's a size issue," Mowry argues.

(AP) ? Of the three competition shows that dominate prime-time television, only NBC's "The Voice" is on the ascent.

The music contest with Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton as coaches is giving NBC something positive after years of bad news in the ratings. In only its second season, "The Voice" is competitive with Fox's "American Idol" and ABC's "Dancing With the Stars."

Its viewership is up 36 percent over last season, the Nielsen ratings company said. That number is somewhat skewed by a second season premiere that directly followed the Super Bowl, but even with that episode discounted, viewership is still up by 22 percent.

By contrast, "Idol" viewership is down 21 percent on Wednesday nights compared to last year and 20 percent on Thursdays, Nielsen said. ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" was the second most-popular show on TV last week with the premiere of its 14th cycle, but that was still down 17 percent from the first episode last spring.

"On a foundation night ? Monday night ? when we've had some trouble now we've got something that is holding its own and indeed winning one of the toughest nights on television," said Paul Telegdy, head of alternative programming at NBC.

The show's positive atmosphere, with coaches instead of judges, seems to have struck a chord, he said.

"Idol" and "Dancing" are also old by television standards, and that's reflected in their audiences, too. The median age of an "Idol" viewer this season is 48, Nielsen said, and the show had many more younger viewers when it was new. The first "Dancing" episode this season attracted an audience with a median ago of nearly 59. "The Voice" audience has a median age of 43.

"It's just human nature to think about what's new and what's fresh," Telegdy said.

Both "Dancing With the Stars" and the new "American Idol" had larger audiences than "The Voice" last week, Nielsen said. But in a measurement of viewers aged 18-to-49, the demographic NBC most cares about, "The Voice" was second only to Wednesday's "Idol" edition.

Fox landed in the week's top 10 with the strong premiere of Keifer Sutherland's new drama, "Touch," which had 11.8 million viewers. That's another reminder of the power of network TV: AMC's "Mad Men" received lots of ink for its season premiere and set its own record with 3.5 million viewers, but that was still less than half the people who saw "Touch."

CBS won the week, averaging 9.8 million viewers in prime time (6.2 rating, 10 share). ABC had 6.9 million (4.4, 7), Fox had 6.7 million (4.1, 7), NBC had 5.3 million (3.4, 6), the CW had 1.4 million (0.9, 2) and ION Television had 1 million (0.7, 1).

Among the Spanish-language networks, Univision led with an average of 3.7 million viewers (2.0, 3). Telemundo had 1.1 million (0.6, 1), TeleFutura had 610,000 (0.3, 1), Estrella had 230,000 and Azteca 140,000 (both 0.1, 0).

NBC's "Nightly News" topped the evening newscasts with an average of 8.3 million viewers (5.6, 12). ABC's "World News" was second with 7.1 million (4.8, 10) and the "CBS Evening News" had 6 million viewers (4.1, 8).

A ratings point represents 1,147,000 households, or 1 percent of the nation's estimated 114.7 million TV homes. The share is the percentage of in-use televisions tuned to a given show.

For the week of March 19-25, the top 10 shows, their networks and viewerships: "NCIS," CBS, 19.06 million; "Dancing With the Stars," ABC, 18.79 million; "American Idol" (Wednesday), Fox, 17.21 million; "NCIS: Los Angeles," CBS, 16.17 million; "American Idol" (Thursday), Fox, 15.58 million; "Criminal Minds," CBS, 12.09 million; "The Voice," NBC, 11.95 million; "Touch," Fox, 11.81 million; "Castle," ABC, 11.52 million; "Two and a Half Men," CBS, 11.47 million.
